Precise global collision detection in multi-axis NC-machining

چکیده
We introduce a new approach to the problem of collision detection in multi-axis NC-machining. Due to the directional nature (tool axis) of multi-axis NC-machining, space subdivision techniques are adopted from ray-tracing algorithms and extended to suit the peculiarities of the problem in hand. We exploit the axial-symmetry inherent in the tool's rotational motion to derive a highly precise polygon-tool intersection algorithm which, combined with the proper data structure, also yields efficient computation times. Other advantages of the proposed method is the separation of the entire computation into a preprocessing stage that is executed only once, allowing more than one toolpath to be efficiently verified thereafter, and the introduced ability to test for collisions against arbitrary shaped tools such as flat-end or ball-end, or even test for interference with the tool holder or other parts of the NC-machine.

Efficient Web-Learning Collision Detection Tool on Five-Axis Machine
As networking has become popular, Web-learning tends to be a trend while designing a tool. Moreover, five-axis machining has been widely used in industry recently; however, it has potential axial table colliding problems. Thus this paper aims at proposing an efficient web-learning collision detection tool on five-axis machining. However, collision detection consumes heavy resource that few devi...
متن کاملPrecise gouging-free tool orientations for 5-axis CNC machining
We present a precise approach to the generation of optimized collision-free and gouging-free tool paths for 5-axis CNC machining of freeform NURBS surfaces using flat-end and rounded-end (bull nose) tools having cylindrical shank. To achieve high approximation quality, we employ analysis of hyper-osculating circles (HOC) [26, 27], that have third order contact with the target surface, and lead ...
متن کاملA new accurate curvature matching and optimal tool based five-axis machining algorithm
Free-form surfaces are widely used in CAD systems to describe the part surface. Today, the most advanced machining of free from surfaces is done in five-axis machining using a flat end mill cutter. However, five-axis machining requires complex algorithms for gouging avoidance, collision detection and powerful computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems to support various operations. An accurate ...
متن کاملThe Challenges for CAM Systems and Users in 5-Axis Machining
The use of short cutters is a key feature of 5-axis machining. It significantly reduces the deflection of the tool, results in a better surface quality, prevents reworking and reduces immensely the number of electrode erosions. At the same time there are increasing requirements placed on CAM systems. Collision control and collision avoidance in particular are complex and time consuming tasks. T...
متن کاملDeriving Generic Transformation Matrices for Multi-Axis Milling Machine
This paper proposes a new method to find the equations of transformation matrix for the rotation angles of the two rotational axes and the coordinates of the three linear axes of an orthogonal multi-axis milling machine. This approach provides intuitive physical meanings for rotation angles of multi-axis machines, which can be used to evaluate the accuracy of the conversion from CL data to NC d...
